At 46, I was 5’7” and weighed 206 pounds.
If someone had told me I’d be hiking the Sugarloaf Mountain Trail in Boulder just six months later, I’d have laughed.
But guess what? I did it yesterday!
When my husband and I were younger, we dreamed of moving to Boulder.
We love the outdoors and imagined living close enough to hiking trails to explore them every weekend.
But I held us back.
After giving birth to three beautiful children, I gained about 20 pounds with each pregnancy.
With every birth, I felt heavier, more exhausted, and further away from the life we’d envisioned.
Looking in the mirror became unbearable—I felt trapped in a body I didn’t recognize, filled with shame and self-loathing.
I’ve always loved delicious food, and at 46, eating healthy just didn’t feel like a priority. My weight took over my life.
My grandkids stopped asking me to play because I couldn’t keep up.
My friends stopped inviting me to fun outings because I’d struggle to walk even a short distance.
Even my husband, who loved hiking, started going alone because he was too afraid I wouldn’t make it back.
